Warm Up Foxton

Warm Up Foxton is a unique project with the aim of insulating the whole town.

Foxton, like many smaller communities in rural NZ are underrepresented in the statistics of homes insulated under the governments Warm Up New Zealand: Heat Smart programme.

We’re really proud to be able to offer Foxton residents the opportunity to lead New Zealand by being the first town fully insulated.

Our Warm Up Foxton project offers to insulate low-income homes with safe and friendly GreenStuf® polyester ceiling and underfloor insulation at no cost to the homeowner, and provide up to 70% funding for all other eligible home-owners.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Home built prior to 1st January 2000
  • Home located in the Foxton Township and zoned Residential 1 on the Town Plan
  • Home in private ownership (i.e. not Housing NZ) – can be owner occupied or tenanted

There are approximately 1,300 eligible homes and we envisage the project will take up to 18 months to deliver. We’re aiming to have the whole town warm and cosy with GreenStuf® by March 2013.

Warm Up Foxton is whole-heartedly supported by Horowhenua District Council, the Foxton Community Board, EECA and our project partners as we believe it will deliver a real and positive difference to the people of Foxton. We also believe this project will become a leading-light for other small communities to recognise the wider benefits of well insulated homes.

The Warm Up Foxton project also provides an opportunity to evaluate energy consumption changes and occupant health outcomes on a much more significant scale than ever before. This project will provide opportunities for us to work with local energy providers and support further research by Professor Philippa Howden-Chapman (Director: He Kainga Oranga/Housing and Health Research Programme) on the wider benefits of insulating New Zealand homes.
